The aims of the Trust are twofold: to support existing registered charities and organisations which are concerned with the benefit and relief of disabled people in England and Wales and to promote the understanding of disability through the arts, writing and journalism. Applications, which must be in writing, are considered in March and September and must be received by the beginning of February and August.

The Steven Bloch Image of Disability Charitable Trust was established in 2011 in memory of Steven Bloch who died in 2008. Steven suffered acquired brain injury following a skiing accident in 1980 and, having had to abandon his law studies, eventually graduated in 1996 with a BA (Hons) in Photography from the West Surrey Institute of Art & Design.

Steven used his photography, in conjunction with writing articles, to portray a positive image of people with a disability and to advance a greater understanding of disability through both disability and non-disability publications. These images have been widely featured by various government bodies and educational institutions including The National Disability Council (annual report 1999-2000), publication of the National Bureau for Students with Disabilities (Hobsons Publishing 1998/99) and Leicester University (Prospectus 2000) as well as a large number of charitable organisations.

There have been several solo exhibitions of his work ranging from Jacksons Lane Community Centre Disability Arts Festival (1999), National Disability Council at the House of Lords (2000) to "Perceptions" at the International School, Brussels (2003/4). A retrospective of his work was mounted at the Hitchin Museum & Art Gallery in April 2008. Steven was also commissioned as the official photographer for the Special Olympics in North Carolina, USA, in 1999.
